Sources have told Variety that Showtime is developing a sequel series to the show that aired from 2004 to 2009.
Writer/director Marja-Lewis Ryan will take the steering wheel of The L Word sequel, besides the original creator Ilene Chaiken as Executive Producer and actors Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey.
‘Ilene and the original L Word made me believe that my voice mattered,’ Marja-Lewis told Hollywood Reporter.
‘I am beyond excited for the opportunity to usher in the next generation of diverse queer people. I couldn’t imagine a better time to make this show.’
The reboot will be based on a new generation of girls, following their lives, loves and tribulations. However, if the project is greenlit, stars Beals, Moennig and Hailey are expected to serve as executive producers and appear in the series with their characters as a point of connection from the prior series to the new one.
It was announced in July that the reboot was in development on a sequel to The L Word, which revolved around a group of lesbians in West Hollywood and their friends, family and lovers. Showtime has thus far declined to comment on the reboot.
