Marvel and Netflix gave us a sneak peak of the latest Marvel series The Punisher. This follows the tradition of Marvel movies, at the end of The Defenders.
The feature is a spin-off from the second season of its hit “Daredevil” series. “The Punisher” again features Jon Bernthal as one of Marvel’s most popular heroes, former elite soldier Frank Castle. He uses his skills to mercilessly hunt down criminals of every stripe after the murder of his family.
The trailer opens with Frank Castle slamming the ground with a sledgehammer and talking about his past.
“Memories, they never hurt me,” he says while we see glimpses of Castle’s past — his murdered family and his stint in the army. “The past is more than memories, it’s the devil you sold your soul to. He’s coming. He’s coming to collect.”
The trailer closes by zooming and out and revealing Castle’s handiwork with the sledgehammer. Appearing on screen is the iconic and ominous Punisher skull logo. Netflix’s announcement notes, “After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.”
Netflix will release The Punisher sometime next year.
