Mickey Mouse Club

Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me? Variety reports that Facebook’s first digital program will be more of a reality show than a talent show. It brings the revival of the Mickey Mouse Club.

It looks like it will be a lot less singing and dancing and a lot more posing for Instagram. Todrick Hall and Alisha Marie — influencers with prominent YouTube channels — will appear as guest mentors. In addition to helping the kids with their style and choreography, Hall and Marie will also instruct the group on their social media presence. Instagram accounts for all eight of the new Mousketeers will aid the show’s promotion. This will be in conjunction with a main Club Mickey Mouse account.

The show will last for approximately seven weeks. It will follow the cast as they work on original entertainment material. Rather than air a single episode, Disney Digital Network will publish around 70 pieces of content a week for the show.

Stars In The Making

The original series, which premiered on ABC in 1955, and made Annette Funicello a household name. The 1977 revival introduced audiences to future Facts of Life star Lisa Welchel. Most noteworthy, it is the 1989 revival on Disney Channel which people remember most fondly for the staggering amount of future superstars it managed to cast. Throughout its seven seasons, The All-New Mickey Mouse Club featured Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, Christina Aguilera and JC Chasez.

Facebook will announce the cast of Club Mickey Mouse at a later date.
