It seems like the new trend in Hollywood is becoming fairly identifiable and will likely become over inflated in the soon to come future.
I am referring to making movies, specifically comic book movies, rated R. Studio heads who are likely still using pen and paper to take notes and hand written letters versus emails were stuck on the fact for so long that “family friendly” ratings were likely to make movies more profitable. However these were the individuals that wanted more dark and gritty movies to begin with. So what we got was “violent” movies with no blood, swearing and thus very little realism. You would think that if someone is being chased by a monster they are likely to let off a curse word or two – I know I would. Thanks to Logan but most importantly Dead Pool these studio execs are finally thinking different thoughts. After Dead Pool grossed almost a billion in the box office many were left scratching their head thinking why didn’t we do this before? Well they ironically had. Bringing the comic books of Kingman and Kick-Ass to life with heavy R ratings stood Marv Films headed by one of the most legendary film makers in my opinion – Matthew Vaughn.
Vaughn has an impressive resume with massive box office performances and movies adored by film critics alike. Vaughn wrote and directed Layer Cake (2004), Kick Ass (2007), X-Men First Class (2011) which essentially saved the X-Men franchise after Brett Ratner’s monstrosity, Kingsman: The Secret Service and soon to be gem of a movie Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle (2017).
Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2014 with Vaughn absolutely knocking it out of the park receiving a 74% on Rotten tomatoes and grossing almost a half billion USD at the box office. It was very R Rated to say the least with some graphic yet incredible scenes including the “Church Scene” which I think I have re-watched close to a dozen times at the time of this writing, it is likely more at this point. If you haven’t seen the movie yet do yourself a favour and check it out – its an absolute roller coaster with an incredible cast.
Vaughn is now treating us with a sequel taking the helm once again for the 2017’s Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle. The trailer will likely be dropping soon and some special individuals managed to get a sneak peak at Cinema Con. Reports are suggesting that the sequel looks like it’s taken everything you loved about the first film and then added about a million new awesome things and each one is better than the last. Also, Channing Tatum looks like he might steal every scene.
Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle is set to drop on the 29th of September and stars an immense cast including Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges.
I could not be more excited.
